Pixie

Here's a little post about my pixie.  Last December, my hair was half-way down my back and I actually really loved it.  I love long hair and I felt like mine was thick and healthy.  Nevertheless, I turned 29 and with the new year came my "30 Things to do Before I'm 30" list.  Number 1 on the list was to get a pixie cut.  So at the very beginning of January, I walked into a new to me salon and told the stylist to give me a pixie.  She was shocked!  I think it was hard for her because she didn't know me and hadn't worked with me and didn't know how I would react to such a dramatic change.  After braiding my hair into two braids, she cut it right at the nape of my neck.  I actually really liked it but told her to continue to go the whole way.  In total, I think about 20 inches was cut off (I went back about 1 month after the initial cut and had it cut even shorter.)  Here is a taken the first day it was cut:

Don't mind Jude.  He wasn't ready on the count.

Here are my braids that I sent away to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths:

Slightly creepy.

This was taken a couple days later after the shock had worn off and I realized I didn't like the bangs pulled down:

And this is when I decided to go shorter:

After I cut it like this, I actually loved it the very most.  But, of course, a cut like this doesn't last long.
If I kept up my pixie, I would probably chose this style.  It was so easy and there was no bulk.  I would wash it and put a little wax on the top.

These were my reasons for getting the pixie:
  • I have always wanted to try it and it was on my list.
  • All of my long hair was falling out after having Jude and he was also a hair puller.  He was pulling out handfuls of my hair all day long.
  • Jude also had reflux pretty bad and I was puked on all day long.  The short hair stayed much cleaner.
  • I wanted to donate it.
  • It was adventurous and different.
  • Everyone was growing long hair and doing the different braids and waves and I wanted something different.  I was also excited to try out shorter styles as it grew out.
  • My hair had a lot of left-over red in it from dying it dark, dark for a few years.  It just wouldn't come out and I hated the redness because it didn't ever match the top of my hair.  I didn't want to keep dying it so this was a good way to just get rid of it.
These are my reasons for growing it out:

  • I never intended to keep it up.  I don't enjoy having to go to the salon every month.
  • My hair grows fast and it became really bulky in places very quickly.  Also, the neck was usually at a strange almost mullet length (that's why I liked the shorter, more boyish style better).
  • I was excited to try out different short styles on the way down.
  • Ultimately, I feel better with a softer, more feminine style.  While the short pixie was funky and fun, I do prefer a more romantic, classic style.
I do not have a current picture of my hair.  I watched The Artist last night, though, and my hair looks a lot like Peppy Miller's.

Now if only I could figure out those finger waves...

I really love it!  It's fun and different but still romantic.  I think I'd like to keep it this length for awhile.  It is unique but softer and more romantic than the pixie.  Should I trade in my red lipstick for a deep purple?

I'm seriously so jealous you can pull off that pixie cut! I LOVE the longer length you're growing it to, also. THOUGH, jealous again that your hair has grown so much in 6 months! Wowza!

You could rock any hairstyle!

By the way, I have a friend that is moving to CT. I'm not sure what area you lived but do you remember any good areas near Hartford?
